Art Show and Auction

Volunteer Stories – Art Show and Auction
This ‘Art Show and Auction’ idea was submitted by Monica from Shailer Park Primary School as a part of our ‘Volunteer Stories’ Series. We are committed to saving school and club volunteers from having to “reinvent the wheel” all of the time and this series aims to do that by sharing real life stories from other volunteers. If you have an idea to share (good or bad, small or huge), we would be most grateful if you would submit it here.

Summary
We turn our school hall into an art gallery. Each child makes 2 individual pieces for the gallery. We also auction off a large action item that is made by the entire class.
Parents have a bidding war auctioning for their kids class item. It’s a highly successful night and raises much-needed funds for our art department.
The top 3 things about this idea or event:
- Seeing what Auction items each class come up with
- Showcasing individual students talents
- We use it as an opportunity for our performance groups to entertain
The one thing you would have done differently
One year we attempted to make it so the large class auction item had to be 3D, but it was too limiting as it meant there were no canvases, paintings, drawing etc. We have now gone back to it being anything.
Additional Comments
We also have ‘guest’ auctioneers this year it was one of our teachers and he did a great job, the last few years it was a retired radio presenter who also worked well.
