Spoiling volunteers – find a strategic partner for your organisation

Rewarding Your Volunteers

I heard a great idea a couple of weeks ago, and have been busting to share it with you all!

A school in NSW is situated nearby a shopping centre with a foot massage shop in it. I’m not sure who instigated the idea, but they have an arrangement where the shop donates a free foot massage voucher every month (10 per year because of the summer holidays) and all volunteers go into the draw to win the voucher each month.

This particular school (as I think all schools are required to) have a volunteer sign-in book. Any parent volunteer who goes to help with reading or any other activity are required to sign in each time.

Each time a volunteer appears in the book, an entry is put into the draw to win the free foot massage for the month. For those helping with fundraising, the school-community liaison officer keeps her own records to make certain an entry goes in for them also.

The volunteer rewards draw is made by the principal on assembly and announced in the school newsletter and on their Facebook page. Naturally, a glowing vote of thanks is made every time to the foot massage shop that donates the vouchers, and shout-outs done on Facebook.

This arrangement is a win-win! A small business gets promotion and goodwill without having to pay actual money for it, and volunteers get acknowledged and spoilt. Alternatives to a foot massage include a facial, pedicure, coffee vouchers – you name it, it can be done – all you need to do is ask the question!

Do you have any rewards programs for volunteers? We would love to hear about it. Share your story!

Time to get creative people 🙂

Happy Fundraising!
